We often use proverbial expressions in daily life, typically quoting only fragments of the original phrase. This truncation fundamentally alters the meaning - what sounds fitting to us often strays far from the author's intent.

Russia's beloved saying 'It's good where we are not...' perfectly illustrates this. Its full version by Anton Chekhov reads: 'It's good where we are not. We are not in the past, and therefore it seems beautiful.' The abbreviated version has become commonplace while losing its profound existential meaning - a paradox I've visualized in this painting.
